[MTV Video Music Award Japan 2012] Girls' Generation Win Album of the Year

Girls’ Generation has continued to prove it’s popularity in Japan, this time beating the likes of Coldplay and Lady Gaga.

This year at the 2012 MTV VMAJ‘s, Girls’ Generation managed to take home the prestigious Album of the Year award. They faced stiff competition in the form of international artists Coldplay and Lady Gaga, Domestic Jazz star Juju and fellow hallyu pop stars in KARA. Their first Japanese album, which shares the same name as the group, has been widely successful, even achieving Million certifiction by the Japanese RIAJ for having over 1,000,000 albums shipped.

For Girls’ Generation, this album was an ambitious project that saw them adapt  established hits into Japanese, coinciding with a widely successful Japanese Arena Tour. Diligent work from translators and lyricists help adapt the Korean songs for a new market, while providing a new sound to the group in the form of brand new tracks, with the end result being incredibly successful. Not to be outdone were the members, who took on the incredibly difficult task of learning to sing in a new language, re-shooting a few music videos and some new ones, all the while promoting in Japan, Korea and the United States. It’s no wonder that the Girls’ Generation Japanese album has received a lot of attention from SONEs around the world.

According to sources on Twitter, the VMAJ’s did not have an award presentation for Album of the Year on broadcast, likely attributed to the fact that all of the nominees were not in attendance.

[MTV Video Music Award Japan 2012] Girls' Generation Memenangkan "Album of the Year"

Dalam urutan pemenang MTV Video Music Award Japan 2012 (MTV VMAJ 2012) yang baru saja diumumkan, Girls’ Generation, yang dikenal di Jepang sebagai Shoujo Jidai, memenangkan penghargaan “Best Album of the Year” untuk album Jepang pertama mereka, ‘Girls’ Generation’. Mereka mengalahkan nominasi besar lainnya seperti Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Juju dan sesama grup K-pop korea, KARA.

 

Selain itu, Girls’ Generation juga masuk nominasi “Best Video of the Year”. Kategori ini sendiripun akhirnya dimenangkan oleh EXILE untuk lagunya ‘Rising Sun’.

Album penuh Jepang pertama Girls’ Generation yang berjudul sesuai dengan nama grup mereka dirilis pada bulan Juni tahun lalu dan masih mencetak angka penjualan yang tinggi dengan ditetapkannya album ini ke peringkat “Million” oleh Asosiasi Industri Rekaman Jepang (AIRJ) di awal bulan ini. Keberhasilan ini menjadikan Girls’ Generation artis kedua yang mencapai peringkat “Million” setelah senior mereka, BoA untuk album “Best of Soul” tujuh tahun yang lalu.

Girls’ Generation sudah tidak asing di penghargaan MTV VMAJ karena mereka memenangkan dua dari tiga kategori tahun lalu: kategori “Best Group Video”, dan “Best Karaokee! Song” untuk single remake Jepang mereka, “Genie”. Kali itu mereka mengalahkan Black Eyed Peas, Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, Ikimono-gakari dan w-inds.

Penghargaan ini melambangkan kesuksesan Girls’ Generation di Jepang, yang baru saja debut di Jepang kurang dari dua tahun lalu di tahun 2010. Perilisan “Paparazzi” pun sudah mendapat dukungan dan respon yang luar biasa dari penggemar di Jepang juga di internasional. Girls’ Generation Certified “Million”

Girls’ Generation’s recent achievements in Japan have reached an all-time high as the Recording Industry of Japan gives them the “Million” certification

In 1989 the Recording Industry of Japan (RIAJ) started certifying albums based on the number of copies shipped with criteria ranging from Gold (100,000), Platinum (250,000), Double-Platinum (500,000), Triple Platinum (750,000), Million (1,000,000) and Multi-Million (2,000,000).

Girls’ Generation’s first Japanese Album, Girls’ Generation, recently garnered the prestigious recognition and now joins fellow SM label mate BoA as the only Korean artists to have reached such a pinnacle.

Other artists that have earned the “Million” RIAJ certification include Lady Gaga, Aerosmith, Backstreet Boys, Eric Clapton, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, and more...

Needless to say, this is a fantastic boon for Girls’ Generation as they prepare for their Paparazzi Single that is set for release later this month.
